Natasha Machado
Natasha Machado (formerly Weragoda) has been working full time as a clinical Exercise Physiologist for the past 11 years at Epworth Healthcare. Since 2013, Natasha has also been a sessional lecturer at Australian Catholic University and Deakin University, for the Masters of Exercise Science/Exercise Physiology students presenting topics on rehabilitation post neurological injury, gait and running re-training and mental health and weight management. Natasha has 2 peer-reviewed journal publications and is a finalist for the Young Investigator Award at the 2021 Exercise and Sports Science Australia Research to Practice conference. Natasha has presented at the 2021 Exercise and Sports Science Australia - Research to Practice, 2020 Epworth Research month, 2019 Australian Physiotherapy Association conference, 2012 Exercise and Sports Science Australia conference and Epworth Research Institute ‘Research Week’ in 2013 and 2019. Natasha is a PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne (Project titled: “Cardiac Rehabilitation in Stroke Survivors to Improve Survivorship – CRiSSIS”). Natasha is a part of a larger stroke research team led by Associate Professor Gavin Williams at Epworth Healthcare who have obtained over $300,000 in research funding. Natasha Machado was awarded the J& B Anderson Scholarship and received funding through the Samuel Nissen Trust through the Epworth Medical Foundation for the project titled 'Cardiac Rehabilitation in Stroke Survivors to Improve Survivorship'. Natasha Machado received a 'Capacity Building Grant' for the project titled “A pragmatic test of cardiorespiratory fitness in people with stroke” and ‘Heartbeat Epworth Cardiac Scholarship’ for the project titled “The implementation of stroke-adapted cardiac rehabilitation” through the Epworth Medical Foundation.
